Sauer brand products

For Sauer Brands, one of the largest producers of spices, extracts, and seasonings, quality goes hand-in-hand with the company name. What began with a young pharmacist selling pure-flavoring extracts in 1887 has now grown to a large-scale consumer goods brand that manufactures and sells a wide variety of food products.

Sauer Brands Delivers On Its High-Quality Reputation With GlobalVision

For a company with a rich-history like Sauer Brands, lining store shelves with high-quality products is essential when it comes to maintaining a strong brand image. Labels and packaging are a key factor in the success of a brand, especially in the consumer goods market. A labeling error can severely damage a brand’s reputation and cause a potential misprint or recall, which can have a substantial financial impact. With little room for error in the food and beverage industry, making the switch to automated proofreading was an easy choice when it came to quality control for Sauer Brands.

After implementing GlobalVision’s Print Inspection system at its New Century, Kansas facility, Sauer Brands has been able to significantly streamline the proofreading process when it comes to inspecting hardcopy proofs. The GlobalVision system is used to scan their labels of various substrates including film, and compare them against approved digital artwork files, a task that is extremely tedious and time-consuming when done manually. By inspecting their labels with GlobalVision Print Inspection, they are able to approve or reject labels quickly while also checking barcodes. Using the reporting feature, they can effectively communicate requested edits or approvals with relevant departments and suppliers.

“[GlobalVision] helps things go faster and smoother because the machine does all the work for us. If the machine says it’s good then we move on” says Valerie Fultz, Production Processing and Transfer Scheduler at Sauer Brands. They primarily use GlobalVision to inspect text, graphics, color, and barcodes on printed labels and other packaging components. The system finds any deviations between approved artwork files and printed proofs in a matter of seconds, adding that key element of automation to their workflow.

A favorite feature of GlobalVision’s system, Color Inspection, is used to ensure that color values on the artwork are 100% accurate which is often difficult to determine just by using the naked eye as color perception varies from person to person. GlobalVision gives them a definite value that allows them to determine if the inspection is a pass or fail.

With GlobalVision in place to streamline and automate Sauer Brands’ proofreading process, the company can focus on other pressing tasks in an often fast-paced industry, and continue to ensure that quality remains a key pillar of the Sauer Brands name.
