Spot Color
A spot color is a color that is pre-mixed and applied using a specific ink. Unlike regular colors that are created through the process of mixing cyan, magenta, yellow, and black (CMYK), spot colors are mixed and ready to go.
Spot colors are used for design elements that require precise color matching, such as logos, brand colors, or certain artwork.
Imagine if Coca-Cola’s red looked slightly different on every can, or if Tiffany’s blue changed every time you saw it. Chaos, right? Spot colors ensure that a brand’s signature color is always perfect, powerful, and unforgettable, no matter where it appears, on packaging, business cards, or massive billboards.
They create trust and identity, making sure customers recognize and connect with a brand at a glance. In a world full of color, spot colors are the ones that never fade, never change, and always stand out!
The most common system for spot colors is Pantone (often referred to as Pantone Matching System or PMS). They offer a wide range of colors, each with a unique code. These colors are used to ensure consistency across different print jobs and media. They provide a more accurate and uniform result compared to standard process colors.
Spot colors are often used in offset printing, screen printing, and other processes where color precision is crucial.
