Nutritional Facts Label

A nutritional facts label is a standardized chart found on packaged food and beverage products that provides essential information about their nutrient content. It helps consumers understand what they’re eating and make informed choices about their diet.

Essentially, a nutritional facts label is your personal food roadmap, it tells you exactly what’s inside what you eat and drink. Found on almost every packaged food and drink, this label breaks down the important details. This includes how many calories you're getting, how much fat, sugar, and protein are in each serving, and what vitamins and minerals it provides.

Key Components of a Nutritional Facts Label

  • Serving Size: The recommended portion size for the product.
  • Calories: The total energy provided per serving.
  • Macronutrients: Amounts of fat, carbohydrates (including sugar and fiber), and protein.
  • Micronutrients: Vitamins and minerals like calcium, iron, and potassium.
  • % Daily Value (%DV): Shows how much each nutrient contributes to a daily diet (based on a 2,000-calorie intake).
  • Ingredient List: Found below or near the label, listing all ingredients in order of weight.
